I am curiuos how many of you run a wireless network at your house. What router you use? and what (if any) security.

I use a Linksys WRT54GC with WPA2 Mixed Mode security. I prefer not to have wireless but my roommate likes to sit on his butt and watch TV downstairs.

I have a Linksys WRT54G with WPA. I had WEP previously but for some reason my macbook would not let me connect to it using WEP.

Netgear DG834M with no security, purely because I live in a residential area surrounded by people who I know for a fact down own computers
Plus it saves the hassle of setting up WPA settings etc. on any systems i build/test/fix for people

Linksys WRT54GL with no security, with even the firewall turn off. I just disable SSID broadcast, so to enter my network, you will need to know the SSID name. People in my residential area are computer noobs, so till now no one piggyback my network.

Hey Sphere, are you on a static IP? And which version of the WRT54G are you running? Lol, I'll bust out my kiddy-scripts and see what I can do from another country.
On topic: I'm running the WRT54G as well, MAC filtered with WEP 128bit. I'd love to do WPA, but I have an older computer that needs to connect to it which doesnt support WPA.

has anyone tried linux for linksys routers? I heard you just have to flash the ROM on the router and it will run linux.

MAC filtering doesnt do anything for security.

Bleh. Do you use AirSnort. Its old, outdated and very little support for difrent hardware.

I run a the 'older' Linksys WRT54GS (speedbooster model) older being before they released the new broadcom chips that can't be reflashed.
Running on firmware Alchemy v. 1.0
a hellofalot more options compared to the standard linksys firmware.

I using one actually. WRT54GL. Only slight more expensive by a few bucks. Worth it compare to WRT54G v5 which is lousy and unstable according to many claims.

I have an Aironet 1200 (G) off a Cisco 1720 router. The Aironet uses WAP+TKIP to authenticate to my RADIUS server. Yes, I'm a HUGE networking geek....but I'm super secure.

Actually I need to be secure since I do a lot of work from home and have VPN sessions open to client sites all the time. I can't have naughty little monkeys like you guys sniffing around my network.

Well maybe you should move a bit closer then!

Actually, I think I'd prefer to head your way. The actual configuration of my network setup isn't difficult, it just requires a little bit of time and some hardware most home users don't typically have (i.e. a Windows server and a more expensive access point).
Also, if anyone is interested in giving this setup a shot and has the hardware to support it let me know!
