Full Version: How did you get your username?
Flexbeta > General > General > Things in General
stlava
It's a bit of a tradition for me to ask in forums so here I go.. I know there is some sort of creative story behind every username, whats yours?
IGotTheMondays
I took mine from my favorite movie Office Space and the fact that I really hate Mondays.
thexfile
I got mine from running allot of beta software = x file cool2.gif
paleck
Just a nickname I got from some freinds.
beta-guy
back in 1998 I wanted to test Windows Memphis I had just learned about beta testing and was excited so I started using this name more and more and it just stuck.
davidjames2009
dabomb make pretty bikes, i wanted one

tom, well thats my name

dabomb + tom = dabombtom

HOWEVER I dont really use it any more, but I cant be bothered to change it im slowly phasing it out
Sphere
I actually don't have a clue how I got my nickname, I just thought it sounded pretty nice as a company name (Sphere Design)... Since then I use Sphere as my nick.

And it's pretty easy to come up with new sigs now... I can make anything, stuff a spherical object in it and I'm done smile.gif
QuantumRand()
Well, in physics class, there was this question about a car slamming on its breaks while it was going a certain speed. The point was to decern whether or not it would hit some helpless animal. Instead of going through the painstaking work of figuring out the answer, simply yelling out "QUANTUM RANDOMNESS! The car hits a brick wall" was the new solution.

After that, "Quantum Randomness" was a common phrase used amongst my friends, and I addopted it as my screen name, with the help of my friend suggesting that I substitute the function Rand() for 'Randomness.'
dotslash
From the linux command prompt, dotslash does this:
./command_name - run a command in the current directory when the current directory is not on the path
which i then interpreted into: dotslash - running, but not on the path.

Corny and unoriginal...quite appropriate for CS which is what i came up with it for, and then I just used it everywhere.
uhaligani
I spent a good bit of my life in the Swahili speaking part of Africa. Uhaligani means How are you or: hows it going. Dumb really but there you go!
Xahi4475
My username is antique illyrian name. I like illyrian (albanian forefathers) names.
shadowgate929
my name started with 'shadow', all my nicknames did (i was a n00b tongue.gif) and then it just stuck, i dont know were gate came from and 929 is part of my birthdate: 9.29.88 smile.gif
Singh400
Well, Singh is my real life surname & the 400 is used a random number suggested by an email account creation thingy.
stlava
Now that the ball is rolling here is mine. Back in the playstation one days on the game Tony hawks pro skater 1 you could only enter 3 character entries into the log. One day I let my friend play on my "account" and he got a new high score. When he went to save he somehow saved it as "stl". Probably never know why either... Since my name is slava I just added the t and it became stlava.
Xoria
Anyone ever heard of the game Ragnarok Online? Really cool RPG that my friend decided to run a server for. When he was helping me set it up on my computer he told me to come up with anything I liked. Most the stuff I thought of was crap and I was trying to look for something new and using unique letters. And I just started saying random words until I liked one... Xoria. Ever since then I used that nickname on anywhere that needed me to signup.
Outcast
Play too much Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and a Star Wars fan.

Lastly, I really feel damn 'extra' around people of the same age (my thinkings from them are different) therefore a.k.a. Outcast.

I love that game. I used to play on the official servers (the Loki server mostly). They let me have a free account in return for bug reports and game ideas, but I started running out of time to do all that. Once they wanted to charge me, I stopped playing...

How popular is your friend's server? Maybe I'll start playing again!

Sorry I forgot to mention, this was a few years ago and it didn't go as planned so he soon shut the server down. Haven't really played the game for a long time mainly due to my computer barely matching the requirements. sad.gif I will definetly play the game once I get a good enough PC. We did start playing AO but when I last reinstalled windows I couldn't be bothered to download it again. It is a pretty good game though.

P.S. Sorry guys. I know this is off topic.
Bloodflame
mine is a song by an indie band known as Scratching Post at the time. they've since renamed the group to Minx
John_Doe666
When I started playing CS I wasnt all that good and never played in servers with my friends. Because I was a n00b I died all the time and because I wasnt with anyone that knew me I was dead and unknown. So thats essentially a John Doe. Then the 666 is to make Christian and Catholic people mad cuz I dont really agree much with any religions and thats most popular where Im from. whistle.gif
Earthsiege
Well, obviously everyone can tell that my name comes from Earthsiege, one of my all time favorite games... And whats really cool is that no one else EVER uses this username, so, its mine tongue.gif.
SolarisGuru
Well, my website/game is Solaris RPG Online and I've been running it for almost exactly 10 years now. Everyone called me the "Guru" around the site. So, I put it together and got "SolarisGuru".
trotskythehero
I took my username from a line in an Alex Glasgow song from his play "Close the Coal House Door". The song became a bit of a party piece when I was younger, with friends always asking me to sing it when we had a few too many beers!

The salient part of the song starts off :

A is for Alienation that made me the man that I am
and B's for the Boss who's a B*st*rd, a Bourgeios who don't give damn

It goes on through the alphabet until

S is for sad Stalinism, that gave us all such a bad name
and T is for Trotsky the hero, who had to take all of the blame
U's for the Union of workers, the Union will stand till the end
and V is for Vodka, yes Vodka, the one drink that don't bring the bends

and the song goes on up to Z
