Full Version: Mic Interference

OK, not exactly music related but this seems like the right place. One of the companies I support recently spend a TON of money upgrading and redesigning their video conferencing system (done by a 3rd party). Unfortunately we're now having a problem where any Blackberrys or certain cell phones in the room cause a huge amount of interference on the mics. Is there any type of mic or shielding or ANYTHING that can cut this interference out? I've tried asking them to turn the devices off or leave them out of the room during the calls, however this is not an option.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Help!

Hiya!

Ive done some research over the net, it seems its because of the frequency cellular phones operate on (850hz, i think). no-one has a solution to this problem though :S

How about asking everyone to leave there mobile phones on the table away from the microphones?

Im pretty sure you dont get interference if your around 4-5ft away from anything electrical.

-------- OR --------

Buy a led-lined box and put them in that LoL! blink.gif

A solution might be making a Faraday cache around the mic's

Depends on the network it could run on, 800,850,900,1200,1900,1950. Many frequencies. But yeah just move them away or get diffrent mics.

Unfortunately keeping the devices away from the table has been suggested and thoroughly refused as an option. Everything I've found says that there's no way to stop the interference due to the type of EMF that these devices put out. No matter what types of mics are used the EMF will be a problem...looks like they're going to have to deal with the interference if they insist on keeping the devices in the room.

Thanks for all the tips guys!

You can't build a faraday cage around the room? that should disable all possible interference as wall as functioning of all EMP activated devices tongue.gif

Hum...somehow I don't think this will go over well. laugh.gif
