I just got a samsung T809, released today in most places by Tmobile. Great little slider phone. I got rid of my Razr because I wanted Mp3 playback capability but above all, I wanted expandable memory. Got it with this phone, but I got a little something extra....The mp3 ring tones must be drm, meaning you basically have to buy it from Tmobile or Samsung.

This is a BIG no no on my front....I love the stereo sound, I love the kickass cam - but I want my own custom mp3 ringtones, and if turning some clips into DRM and getting them on my phone will do the trick, then so be it. So anyone with ideas, please step to the front.

Thanks.

Rip the music in Windows Media Player. Go through the options there and choose "Protect."

I think that'd do.

You'll also have to know what type of DRM scheme it uses to protect the files.

I think he means "It doesn't play wma, so converting with WMP is useless. It can only play mp3, aac and mp4 files"

i think you can make protected aac/mp4's with itunes. can't confirm this at the moment though.
plus, imo, aac will sound MUCH better than mp3 on a device like that wink.gif

There is a way to have your mp3s as your ringtones. the way to do it is-with your t809 you were given a software cd, on that software there is an application that allows you to edit mp3s, you load your mp3 on the wave editor and then you highlight the portion of the song that you want as an mp3 then save the highlight portion as an mp3 in a folder on your hard drive. then go to the file and change the file ext. to 3gp after you have done so use the usb port in and make sure the phones usb settings is in mass storage a and basically drag the file into your phones trnas flash memory in music then disconnect-and use your phone to set as ringtone and VWALA! you got mp3 ringtones. its nice to see someone actually try to help on a first post rather than advertise. heh smile.gif

so neo... you haven't posted back. did any of our suggestions work, and if so, which? if not, have you made yer achievement? what did you do to get there?

the reason i ask, is simply incase someone else googles this, it might help them find their answer. i actually notice flexbeta's within the first few pages whenever i search for something thats been posted here smile.gif

Welcome holder! indeed cool for a first post!

I returned the phone. Ended up completely hating it. Stylish phone but not at all worth 300 bux imho.

And yes...renaming any mp3 to 3gp worked as a workaround. Ended up getting a brand new unlocked MPx220 and I'm lovin' it.

To clear up the Windows Media Player issue,

What I was saying is that - the phone does not play wma files. It plays mp3s, aac, etc. Windows Media Player cannot copy protect mp3, aac, etc - it can only protect WMA files.
