hello! I was wondering if someone could guide me. Downloaded Kazaa Gold, does not work at all, finally found 3.0 and it is working fine, but was wondering about PL level. How do I share as much as I get? I coppied some music to my share file but that did not do anything. I also do not understand about the bandwith and supernodes, peer manager and most everything else in general. Do I need to worry about the secruity of my pc? Which files to I need to exclude from norton? What is alnet? I don't write music, is that what this is for? Origanal content? The last thing Gold told me to do was download http://dl.downloadhosting.com/download/Kaz...ectionsTool.exe, it did not do a damn thing! Should a undo it?

thanks, pc illliterate

First of, welcome to Flexbeta. I recommend you try to find a different source for sharing, such as Torrents, mainly because most of the files you find on Kazaa are fake or are viruses. Make sure you run a virus scan before running any file. PL level is easily hacked, you can do a search in Google and find how to increase it >> http://www.google.com/search?q=PL+level+in...:en-US:official
I also recommend you steer clear of sharing any music, the RIAA may be watching and they are suing people no matter what their age is. Have you tried Limewire.com? Much better than Kazaa IMO. Don't worry about Super Nodes, that just means that you will serve as a query manager to other P2P clients, no need to worry about that. You should worry about the security of your PC, get a nice software firewall, or better yet, a router.
I guess you meant AlTnet. Altnet is a program that came bundled with Kazaa. The program, founded by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, would display "related" songs and videos upon a user's search that were actually advertised songs that usually cost money to play. Denoted by their gold color as opposed to the traditional green for non-Altnet files in Kazaa, the downloads would come not from fellow Kazaa users' client computers, but rather from a localized content server paid for by the advertising companies.

Like many programs bundled with Kazaa, Altnet has been labled spyware or adware by many organizations and individuals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altnet

Again, it seems like you are pretty new to the P2P scene. I guess with mistakes you will learn. Again, be very carefull what you share.

THANK YOU!
Yes, I am new to this. While reading the posts to this forum I realized HOW much I do not know!! Have googled torrents but have not found anything in "laymans terms". The last week I seem to have become obsessed with this. Bought new pc , no my husband did for me?, he loves music from A to Z.. If someone else is sharing I just want to give back. I have gone to msn, walmart and a couple of other places but if it comes to older music it is hard to find. I will try your suggestions. Thought about taking a course, if there is one, about all these words I have no clue to, my eyes are getting redder by the min.!!!!
I am not able to help much on the computer scene but if any one wants to know how to cook or aobut fishing on Lake Texaoma I can help!!!!!! I will learn ...... eventually?
Thanks Carol

I think the best way to learn would be to Google a term you don't understand, then try to apply it. For example, you don't know how to use Torrents? Google a tutorial, here is a really good tutorial >> http://thepiratebay.org/howdoidownload.php
You can use our torrent search engine here >> http://www.flextorrents.com/ to search for torrents or use other torrent sites like torrenspy.com, mininova.org and thepiratebay.org. The idea is that if you don't know how to use something, give it a try and you will learn. I learned many applications this way, stuff that I don't even use now, but I was just curious as to how it works. Cheers.

I think eDonkey is proper decent. Its got major sources and even though I don't use torrents much it also supports them. So two in one. Yeh and I used to use ABC, really good but... as I said I dont use torrents anymore.

I can think of better places to donate my money. I won't be renewing with them. Someone on here said it's crap and I do agree.
Tobb555
for P2P i would suggest either Limewire or Ares, but Bit Torrent is deffently the way to go.
paleck
for me its bittorrent and IRC. Used to be alot of ed2k but now the razorback servers are gone sad.gif
