Trying pinging the gmail servers to see if you can even get a connection to them.

Just in case you don't know how.
(in XP) Start > Run > type "cmd"
In the prompt type "ping gmail.com" and "ping mail.google.com" to see if you get a response.
Skunkhardcor3

paulbeattie87

Occasionally, my inbox fails to load up, but the problem's usually fixed by the next time I choose to log in. I'm not really sure of the reason for it, but it's not consistent enough to really be annoying.

the next day..same prob..couldnt get the page to connect..e mailed gmail again..thru hotmail..and they replied it should be fixed now..and yes..gmail was working again like nothing happened.

The next day...same prob..no gmail............i am nearly about to jump off a cliff..except..no cliffs nearby..

Anybody else having this weird relationship with gmail... laugh.gif

And walstrd..any idea what the results of the pinging that i pasted earlier mean..i couldnt decipher it myself..please do tell..education is wonderful..

They basically just say that you are getting a response from gmail and that it is in no way being blocked from you accessing it. In other words, it just proves it's thier problem and not yours.
IGotTheMondays
This is the first time I have gotten this error message and now it's gone but I thought I would post it because it made me laugh.

I am having the same problem. Sometimes I have access to all things Google but more times not. It is really frustrating. When I ping, I get "Request Timed Out" several times and then I get ping statistics.

I think it may be connected to my virus protection and google ads because I didn't have this problem until after I renewed my Norton Protection subscription Friday which included some software updates.

Anybody have any suggestions? It is really frustrating!

Check your network settings. Do other websites give you the same problem?

Thanks for the responses but suspending Norton (ad block was already set to Off) and clearing the cache did not help

My network settings seem fine and I seem to have a problem with anything Google or gmail and Hotmail.com No other problems. The interesting thing is that I have this problem with the two computers on my network. But once again, I haven't made any changes to the connections.

Thanks for your help

Well, I rebooted my cable modem and router which seems to have fixed my problem (for now at least). I have had to reboot the modem before but that was when I had no Internet access at all. I will repost if the problem returns.

Thanks again for your responses

JjcampNR
Sorry, I'm just catching this now...

Usually when you need to reboot your cable modem to solve a problem your ISP may have changed their DNS or IP settings for your chunk of the network. This would make sense since you could get to some sites but not others.
