This really is going to drive the gas prices higher for a few days or a few weeks. I am already paying $2.50 a gallon, and I will have to cut back driving if it goes to $3.50 a gallon.

theres no way your gonna quit driving...compared to Europe we got it easy they pay well over 3+ and close to 5 per gallon...suck it up cause its only gonna get worse..and complaining isnt gonna help the situation. The hurricane made landfall in Biloxi MS...New Orleans got it pretty easy compared to Biloxi...those oil rigs can withstand a lot...it wont hurt us that bad

it will likely disrupt things for a day or 2 ...week most then things will go back to normal

None of these things actually affect the price of oil. Petroleum companies don't operate on razor-thin margins: they're fat sows, wallowing in their own crapulence. The prices rise because they feel like raising them, and people will continue to fill up their Lincoln Navigators just the same.

Who said I was going to quit driving? I said I might have to cut back, that means continuing driving, but drive conservative. If I want to cut back on the driving to save some cash I can, you act like I am the only one complaining about gas prices!
Actually they are expecting to loose quite a few of those oil rigs, over 5000 people have been evacuated off all the oil rigs in the area. Cutting 25% off our oil off does hurt our prices to some extent. What hurts the oil prices the most is panic by the general public and panic within the oil market. That causes the prices to go up more then anything else.

We have the most expensive fuel in the world!! (The Netherlands that is) we're pretty used to redicilously high prices for that stuff

1/3 of the WORLD'S oil supply comes out of New Orleans. New Orleans is suspected to be under water for 5 months, therefore, they are shutting down the oil plant. Gas is rising. Oil is rising.

Question for you guys. Why is it that when there is a chance that oil production will go down the price automatically goes up at the pump, and goes up a lot? But when there is a surplus, it takes weeks for the savings to hit the pumps, and even then it is only pennies? When asked about the savings at the pump during a surplus, the oil companies state that the effect takes a while to trickle down to the pump, but when there is a shortage the price increase is immediate.
Its all bullshit.
