No offense to anyone, but is it too much to ask to at least read rules when you join forums? Its a common courtisy, yet people find it SO hard to do! Ok, so its just the net, but thats no excuse to do whatever you like with no regard to the amount of effeort people have put into keeping things running smoothly.

Im talking about people who needlessly spam their site in topic, when it is clearly against the rules, activate old topics, just so they can say "HAWHAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *snort* I POSTEDIN A TOPIC 2YEARS AFTER THE LAST REPLY!IM SO LEET!!!!!!!!!!!!", and other idiots who cant read rules to save their life. I bet if there was a rule "Each time you spam you lose a limb" theyd soon stop, but judging by the mentality of some of those people, they would just be rolling about limbless....

Seriously, whats the world coming to, when as well as trashing other peoples sites by spamming, people also dont deem it nescissary to obey laws in real life, as if theyre above such things? Are we decending into anarchy here? Where no matter how many times you say the same thing over and over, theyre too up themselves to bother to listen...

Plus, you get the people who cant even be bothered to speak in clear concise English, as if its just too much effort to put the "o" in from, so it takes those of us with brains that extra 20mins to try and work out what they are trying to say...

*Breathes* There.... Ive needed to say that for years biggrin.gif

i agree. the worst part about noobs are when they post useless stuff in very old topics. it really grinds my gears tongue.gif

also bugs me when people register just to ask for a sig or something, then never return.

I think it's more annoying when they start a new topic while there's an open one about that already....

Or when they post a question using a topic, get an answer and never confirm if it worked or what went wrong and never ever return.

Orange™
Yeah i hate that..only come in here to maybe get there post count up to 5 lol

i second that.

i found a script which automatically closes topics after a certain period of no activity. i posted about it in another thread which was under that situation but i guess nobody (mods/admins at least) looked at it. (topic)

here's the link again. i think it would become quite useful

some people come here because they have found on google smth that they were interested in. They click the link, come here, and register quikly just to see if they can obtain what do they want. They just put I accept the terms and that's all, they don't read it.

Maybe kick people that have low posts and are inactive over say half a year... Might solve a bit on all the useless memberships...

And I do agree, topics that haven't been posted in (some left out, like a demonstrate your new sig?) for also say half a year auto close...

Might solve some of these things (Just some ideas...)

And all these things are addressed to moderators.
They can do a clean up here smile.gif

thats pretty much how i came here last winter. i've since read the rules and i try to help out whenever i can. sometimes the rules get a little hard to follow, i try though. i've been warned about a couple things, but for the most part i feel welcome here (at least i hope tongue.gif) flex rocks so i dont see how anyone could not wanna stay and be helpful.

same here, but got instantly interested... mainly because of the Linux forum part...

I sometimes try to bend the rules though... when posting a link in mmdesign, I feel like "yeah, I can point at my sig, or just put the link here, the effect is the same, this post and for commerce!" (sorry mods!)

and agree... flex rocks!
Big Philly (a good friend of mine) wanted to get more into computers... and now he's a member here, and active currently mostly at the graphic dep. but that'll change in time I think...

I wish people realy took the time to read the rules Kangie, but alot of people don't. That's why I constantly need to remind people to read the rules before posting. And if you changed the rules to "Each time you spam you lose a limb" they probly wouldn't even notice since they don't even read the rules laugh.gif Not everyone knows how to spell, I'm french/english but I still manage to spell pretty well and communicate properly. Some people find it difficult to write properly and others are to lazy.

Never make a sig for someone who just joined, it's one of the biggest mistakes you can make. If your like me, and spend at least an hour on a sig then it can be a drag when people never show their face afterwards. I always tell them to keep posting and contact me in a few days. I usualy promis them that if they stay active without spamming I'll make it for them. Also if you want to make sure they don't take off with your art work, brand it with Flexbeta.net somewhere on the sig. That way he won't use it on other sites....

We can't stop people from creating similar topics because the search fonction is only so usefull and mistakes happen. Members sometimes create topics that have already been created in the past without relizing. Even I have done so a couple of times. What does bother me is when it's obvious that they made no effort to search the board what so ever before making a a useless topic. For Example: Who need's 30 longhorn build X topics.

You should send that over to KelpFries, he might be interested in that. He doesn't always get the time to read all these topics... wink.gif If you would like i could point him to your post and this topic because it's nice to get feeback from our members. It helps us improve the site.

While the stupid questions bother me, especially when there is already a topic concerning it open and still active. On a couple sites I frequent, n00bs really aren't a problem. I think ieX and Neowin takes them all. laugh.gif

NicH.
Sphere
no offense Prodigy, but you posted in the school security thread, which was already closed for a while, then torn open by a noob, on which we reacted as in it's closed... and now you open it again (sorta)

p.s.
I don't know if it's said here already, but it's also nice to thank someone if a problem is solved smile.gif
Pr0digy
I believe that thread was reopened and not active for a couple days. Would you like me to open a 3 year old thread?

NicH.
Sphere
like I said, "sorta" but nvm I don't really care, it was just a small note.. like I said,
"no offense"
Pr0digy
Agreed. smile.gif

i think we should just deal with it... close when they're a year old. *archive?*
Sphere
agreed, likewise useless topics should be killed as instantly as possible.
Pr0digy
Whatever happened to that mod that was brought up __ pages ago that turns them into read only?

depends on the content, that is kind of a touchy subject... in one aspect it helps members not have to ask repetive questions with answers that already exist...on the other hand theres the completely useless topics u said and those of course usually get the can
vonskippy
Whats even more annoying is the people who add huge graphics to their tag line which appear in EVERY freaking post. Like anyone cares what their uptime is or what their system specs are, or whatever other stupid a$$ graphic they include that eats up bandwidth. Get a clue - NOBODY CARES.
Rich2189
What classifys as a new person?
JjcampNR
This was perhaps the most perfect reply to the last post. I love the fact that your sig was about 10x longer than the entire content of your post. tongue.gif

vonskippy: Flexbeta has always allowed large sigs, if it bothers you quit whining and go to your control panel and turn off viewing signatures when you read the board. They give you the option of whether you want to view them or not, to complain about it when you didn't even adjust your settings seems silly.
Rich2189

biggrin.gif Does a couple of lines of text really make a big difference when loading a page. i like to see what other systems people are running, to see how rubbish mine is blush.gif

paleck
vonskippy was just complaing bout to many images cuz he has sum noobish dial up connection and it slows him down tongue.gif
