it depends if you're more interested in music or games.
in the long run, the ipod would be cheaper.
mp3's are easily free, but psp games and movies will cost you

@pelican:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=109110073100478 dollars for a 512mb stick. You can put some movies and music on it.
I have a iPod and I love it, but why buy an iPod now, when you can get a good machine for movies, games, and music for the same price?

I dont think the PSP can take those types of cards, I think they only can use the Duo ones.

how much are games and movies for the PSP
oubipaws
May 31 2005, 09:33 PM
Games are 40-50 dollars for new games (they will be around 30 after they are not so popular)
Movies are like 15 bucks, but you can easily rip dvd's onto a DUO card and watch them

I am interested in knowing if the PSP is able to read fast enough off of a memory card in able to display the video accuretly. I know I have a media card reader and 256 Sony Memory card Pro but it doesn't read fast enough to actually play the a video I record with my digital camera. I have to first copy the MPG from the memory card to the HD, then play the video. Anyone ever play an MPG movie off the PSP from a memory card?

Jun 1 2005, 01:17 AM
@pelican... I know that you can get 1 gig... but I'm not sure about bigger than that.
@gsurface... a friend of mine does all kinds of stuff with movies on his PSP and I'll ask him tomorrow how the mpg movies play

I know my Sony Cybershot psc200 has no problem playing the video's I record straight off the 1gig Sony Duo card.

I have an iPod and I love it... but I'm still thinking that the PSP is the better bet because it has more features for the same price.
Target, Walmart, k-mart, etc all have psp's now.... pretty much any store has games and the actual hardware in stock
pelican
Jun 1 2005, 02:16 AM
a PSP is 249 (i think) and i can get a iPod for 200-25 gift card which is 175 dollars for a iPod which is not bad, but ur right the PSP can do movies pretty good to i saw my friends PSP there awesome i love the screen and this handheld system is a 100 times better than the N DS

it all comes down to what you really want to do with it.... if you just want music, go buy the iPod, but the PSP is going to offer alot in the future. It already has wireless

I took several cd's out of iTunes and converted them to iTunes and put them on the Duo card. It sounds great. The sound out of the system itself is loud, but the headphones that come with it sound great.

I was thinking of getting an iPod, but their is one thing that is holding me back. The lacking of support for .OGG in the Vorbis codec is stoping me. I have alot of my Beatles CD's converted to Vorbis @ 256 bit rate, and its so much better then MP3's or ACC. The file size is smaller, and the sound quality is alot better. Also with the recent annoucement of Apple moving to Intel, you know I will be wanting an Intel Powered iPod!

really the iPod will be powered by a intel processor

With the recent annoucement of Apple dumping IBM, that means Intel will be supplying Apple with the iPod's processors which will be Intel's XScale line. I am sure this change will also drive forward video capable iPods.
