I've been really looking forward to this film, because it's something different that all the other stuff out there. Has anyone read the novel it was based on by HG Wells?

I'm going to see it as soon as it comes out. I read the book and saw the original movie, both were excellent. The first movie is a classic.

You know that The War of The Worlds was originally written for the radio/wireless and that was where the story first aired. It put the country into a HUGE panic. When everyone was listening to it on the radio they all thought it was real, everyone thought the story was a news announcement.

Hanging from wires and using Christmas tree light ornaments? Uh no.

I thought this movie was pretty awesome though.

Dude, did you even see the original? By today's standards, it was nothing spectacular, but it was good for its time and is in no way as you described it. It seems all youngsters care about these days is special effects. So sad.

The original is a classic, and for a movie of its time it was on the forefront of special effects. I havent managed to get out and see the new one, but I will, the first chance I get. But no matter how good it is, it will not be comparable to the original. A sign of the times. The original was put out at a time when there was a fear of aliens and alien invasions and the original movie was quite scary to a lot of people. People nowadays are so devoid of the ability to experience the story in the movie, its all about how good the effects are now, a shame. The War of the Worlds is an excellent story about how vulnerable all beings are. Us being completely unable to defend ourselves against an attack by an advanced civilization and the aliens being defeated by a simple virus. It's the ultimate irony.

Dont just watch the special effects, experience the story.
