I cannot express how much I loathe SuSE and other RPM-based distros. Why do people put up with that crap? Why do you people have such a high tolerancy for pure crap, like trying to install something and only getting dependency issues. Why can't you guys get a Gentoo/Debian-based (or Gentoo/Debian themselves if have ye the courage), and just not have to go through such bull that people get from SuSE?
(Kubuntu is your friend)
some try, some learn, others get scared of change, others are tired of change. I tried SuSE and it pissed me off so i made a mostly permanant move

I'm working with SuSE now for about two years, and it's the best distro for me, It's the only one I can do what I want, WITHOUT any problems concerning dependency's, while Debian in my case at least, killed half my installation over missing a development package.... I'll stick with SuSE

I use SuSE when I have linux installed because its so simple to use. And because its the only distro I can find that supports Dell LAN drivers.

i love using SuSE. i dont care if i have to download 2 other programs to install GAIM. it runs really well, looks wonderful and for me, is easy to use. i might try debian, i just downloaded Ubuntu, going to try that when i get the chance but otherwise i'm going to stick to SuSE.
I like using RPMs, dont know why, just do

SuSE also has awesome driver support pre-loaded.
If you buy SuSE instead of downloading personal you dont have many dependency issues....

I have to agree with SimonTheMime.
I am fed up with rpm based distros as well. Use a "debian unstable" based distro like ubuntu or mepis.
Other than maybe fedora, rpm distros such.
I'm using kubuntu with a lot of customized packages. Also debian based systems are a lot faster than SuSE.
debian uses a lot less load than suse. also i prefer gnome over kde. since u can still use kde and gnome which are also available in suse =D so the LOOK is the SAME with the right THEMES. i LOVE ubuntu's theme and it's brownn and that confuses me.
anyway. ubuntu may not be preloaded with GREAT driver support but it's not hard at all to get them. Also has AWESOME package manager. went to ubuntuforums.org and got some 3rd party repositories for packages and i couldn't have asked for an easier way to get my sht. ubuntu is clean and sposdly safer while offering great support from up above and userfriendliness.
had a lot of trouble getting my audigy 2 to work with the alsa drivers but that was just b/c i'm stupid and didn't slide the right sliders up. for the rest of my drivers, went to ubuntuforums.org and did a search, got the packages out of the repository, it loaded all dependencies without a blink and i sat back and smiled.
in short ubuntu (debian base with gnome) is a well thought out distro with little bloat and a clean install and great look.

Don't hate Linux altogether because a distro like SuSE gave the bad impression. Kubuntu rocks the s*** out of SuSE any day.

suse works for many people, count me in. Oh yeah XP is good too!!!

get the 9.3 pro version of suse (yes, u can download it -if u know how to find- ), and you wont have any dependency issues. also, your system will recognize almost all hardware; you will be able to do automatic updates; and the most important of all is you dont have to write commands and make tweaks every other minute just to install an IM program.
I'm not favoring linux over windows, and vice-versa. Each has its own advantages; but we all know that windows is much eaiser to use and it's more compatable. anyway, if you are used to windows and you want to install linux on your home system (which is also used by your parents, sister, etc.), suse is the way to go.

I don't know how installing Linux on a hard drive would kill it. That sounds like total nonsense to me. That's like saying a windows install killed your hard drive. If the drive failed, it was probably on it's last legs to begin with. I was once in the middle of working in one of my Windows machines when the drive crashed....permanently. Do I attribute that to Windows? No. It happens.

axel linux has been know to low level format hdd's especially with the fedora core flavor ...to the point to where it is unuseable. The hard drive wasnt even a year old and it performed flawlessly ...it only did this after linux was installed cause i know i had installed windows numerous times on it without a hitch...

Sorry, I wasn't implying that you were a liar, I've just never heard of anything like this happening before. I had trouble trying to load Mandrake on a hard drive that previously had Lindows on it. I had to wipe over it by installing a minimal windows OS on it before it would recognize the cd boot medium. I guess I could have used a third party tool to do that, but I didn't have one on hand.

u dont hear much about it cause it dont happen all the time but it has been known to hit people ... i jus didnt expect it from SuSE ...of all the Linux OS'es ive dabbled with ...mandrake never did that ...after that it has bittered my feelings about ever using linux , in my eyes they have a long way to go

I really hate linux if you ask me. This thing I'm currently using (ubuntu, based on debian) is a bunch of crap. THere is no DRI by default for my sis650 notebook which is also a load of crap. After the 3rd install the touchpad does not work (it was working when I installed it first). I went mad when I found out
that I have to repack rpm-s to debian format. grrrr
But I have no other choice.
Solaris is too bad, TIger (from Apple) does not run on x86, and dos is too old and useless even if its name changed to.....hmmm... sorry. I should remember...

Perhaps your hardware is the problem, not the OS.

I just updated my one PC to SuSE 10, and installed APT, so I can use either RPM or APT packages to update the system. I have been using APT under SuSE since 9.2, and it's worked fine.
As for Tiger, you can download the underlying source code (Darwin) for x86 - that's how they had OSX running on an Intel box when they announced the Intel switch. It just won't have the GUI and Apple-specific functions.
