Can you guys suggest some fast and reliable DSL ISPs in Toronto, Canada that charge lower than $100 a month? (preferably those that don't block any ports)

ISPs in Canada block ports?

I'd recommend Sympatico High Speed (3Mbps/800kbps) which is a regular price of $45/month. Right now, they're giving it away for $39/month for the first year.

or if you're willing to spend more, there's Sympatico High Speed Ultra (4Mbps/800kbps), which now costs $50/month, cheaper than ever. (I believe it used to be $65/month or somewhere around there)

you get unlimited bandwidth with each, a few 250MB mailboxes which you can use Hotmail to login to, and the uptime is really good. I use High Speed Edition and I love it. They don't block ports either. I'm able to do anything... bittorrent, p2p, dc++, ftp, etc.

Don't get Sympatica High Speed. Bell is the worst Compagny I have ever delt with. I'm warning you. Other then the fact that they illiminated the bandwidth limit it's still a pain in the butt. I would go with Cable if you live in a small city.
Cable speeds can vary deppending on the region you live in but its always pretty fast; Especially if you tweak it properly.

yeh for sure
cable is the way to go, most have 5mbit/800kbit by now, which is the same price as regular cable internet 3mbit/400kbit but you have to buy a 100 modem

the only way to get around port blocking with any isp
is to change the ports that you use often,
all isp have started to limit bittorrent ports due to if they didn't, the internet would be slow for everyone on that isp

Rogers is the best, goes upto 8mb for under $100 (don't remember how much, I think $45/mo?), so much freedom compared to synpatico. I haven't had a problem with it.
gdogg
um i use rogers, and i tried to get there 8mbit, they said nope, 5mbit is the max for residential uses, unless i can cought up a company name(home bussiness) which would require tax ids and such, they will not allow the use of there 8mbit business high speed internet services,

i'm not saying, that they might not treat you different, or that there polocies havn't changed, but that was 3 months ago i asked

rogers is cable, and one of the only good ones for it in ontario, I use execulink dsl but im out of a city, but no limits for me at all so thats good smile.gif

yeh limits bassically are torrent caps, and thats about as far as it went
there was like 2 months where the was a bandwich limit each month,

but its back to unlimited, and only way you can get cut off til the next month, is if you disturb the connections of your neighbor hood due to excessive downloading which they explains is in excess of 50GB a month, and complaints are recieved
Lee_Mann
50gbs i guess i would be on a cap then download upload more then that a month
