Full Version: Flexbeta = Ad Whores

Is it possible that FlexBeta could jam a few more Google Ad's on their site?

I'm sure by some oversite they've actually left a few sentances intact.

Come on guy's there entire square inches of space that doesn't have Google Ad's or banners or boxes.

Lets not fall into the bad habit of displaying real content. You know content that's informative and interesting.

Reading info on this site is like a demo'ing what it's like to have ADD or Autism (i..e read a line or two, then zing, read a bunch of ad's, then read a line or two, etc.).

I'm guessing this site's mission statement is to be the beta website for "all ad's all the time".

Please (PLEASE) limit the crap to side bars and let the content have a frame all to itself.

i dont care much for the ads either but unfortunately they are our only source of income to pay for hosting unless we go to a donation system. only thing i can advise u to do is get an ad remover
OutlandishTrendz
Yup, thats what I had to do. Its so nice too.

Believe me, we here at Flexbeta wished that we didnt have to use ad's, but running our server is extremely expensive and we have to cover the cost somehow. If we dont use ad's. Flexbeta would not be here. We get millions of hits a day and because of that we use an expensive dedicated server. We are all still dedicated to delivering the best inforamtion and content on Technology.

i agree on the positioning of them...their kinda in the middle of everything tho

Yea may want to fix them up a bit, i dont find them that big of a deal, but i know many people do.

I understand the need for income (via AD revenue), and certainly don't begrudge Flexbeta from at least breaking even. The main point of my (slightly) sarcastic rant was the "in your face" method of displaying your ad's. If you were a TV program, not only would you have commercials, but the tv would get up and follow you to the kitchen or bathroom when you left the room. Just move them out of the middle of your content like every other non used-car dealership site and it'll be fine.

unless you want to pay for the site then put up with the ads. ads are a part of life on just about every site you go to, every channel on tv, every radio station. flexbeta isn't a god-site, free and empowered by government grants. the google ads are useless unless clicked (for flexbeta) so why don't you click them and help out flexbeta? wink.gif You can not escape advertising.. especially when our donations are so weak that it forces flexbeta to use ads.

I'd forgotten that Flexbeta even had ads until I viewed it in IE on campus the other day. A well-developed adblock file gives me a mostly ad-free experience.

i just ignore the ads.on ie flexbeta shows ads,on other browsers they are hidden.
OutlandishTrendz
Thats not always true. Cuz I have had FF show the ads just the same as IE.

Ahh... come on guys, it's not that bad. Get used to it! What are you gonna do with the commercials on TV? Stop watching your favorite movies or series? What are you gonna do with the full page ads in the New York Times? Stop reading the paper?

We're living in a capitalistic society, where everything needs money to run, so when Flexbeta puts up ads that will pay the site via ad views (the ones from CasaleMedia or FastClick), and if you like this site, then please... just as I do, do not install an ad-blocking software, because that'll block the ads from loading and Flexbeta won't get any profits from your visit at all. It's not like it's gonna hurt you.

Just my opinion. wink.gif

i dont mind ads. These guys have to pay for the servers someway. Unless vonskippy, you want to pay for them i dont see them going away anytime soon. Hell i click them to help these guys out.

Actually with my ad-blocker they still load, they just dont show up... So I'm not hurtin the site with mine.

googleads aren't bad because they are text and not flashy animations.

I dont understand why so many users complain about Ad's being on sites... if they understood how much money it costs to run a server, then maybe they would feel a bit differently.

If you enjoy being on Flexbeta and you want to see the site stay alive, just help the admins out and support the site by just dealing with the ads.
o0f
as i said before. take it a step further and CLICK the ads. make SOME effort for flexbeta if you aren't going to donate... yet you take full advantage of the efforts of those who run the site.
