I always thought strobes on school buses were to 'wake' people up. Know, in the morning people are still kinda sleepy, you're supposed to stop (in the morning) on BOTH sides of the road when the bus stops. I was told the strobes on the bus psychologically alert anyone near it....but I guess the person was telling me crap. As for that light changer - I'd stay far away from it myself. I flash lights to get signals to change; and if they don't then it's cool, I can wait. Most of the lights i've seen here in VA have a little camera mounted in the middle and have a camera flash every second....so, yeah....no go for sure here.

The flashing red lights on schoolbuses are to be treated as a red traffic signal to motorists. If the red lights are flashing, you are supposed to stop because kids might be crossing the road. I drive a schoolbus for a living and many times the cars just drive right by them, oblivious to what is going on around them. The statement that the lights, or strobes as they were referred to but aren't, can change the traffic lights by the nature of their flashing is simply not true.
