Looks like they want to go to Infinity + 1. Hmm ... Infinity?? This is just shear amazment to me, I mean they have tons of users and they want to increase the quotas to 2GB and possibly even beyond that limit!

Did some quick math here!
approx: .578MB/minute = approx: 1.156MB/2 minutes according to ticker on homepage
so lets say its 1MB / 2 minutes
and its an upgrade of 1024MB / which should be approx 2048 minutes
2048 minutes is approx 34.13 hrs to upgrade from 1Gb to 2GB at the speed of the GMail Home page counter.
At the moment, its up to approx 1116.000MB which means its been upgraded by 92MBs from 1024MB.
92MBs at 184 [2 minutes per MB] means its been running fro approx 3.06 hrs which close to 12.00AM EST.
Now at 1116MB we need 932MB at 1864 minutes to get to 2048
So at this point at 1116MB, we will get to 2048MB in 1864/60 = approx 31 hrs.
I could be right or way way off! Would appreciate it if someone can check my bad math skills.

Google Gulp is and april fools joke however lol,
http://www.google.ca/googlegulp/ also on the homepage I believe. Good one google!
Also... From google
Just Launched!G is for growthStorage is an important part of email, but that doesn't mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we're giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there?
Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people's lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more.

The odds are that they are trying to reach 2GB storage for everyone.....but to me it seems ridculous....who is going to use up 2GB of space?? lol it really doesn't matter to me anyway because i dont have gmail, i dont see the need for it

Well MSN has already been offering 2GB hotmail to it's premium members. Like I said not free but when I was beta testing for the new MSN explorer they gave all testers like 8 months of free MSN premium, checked hotmail one day and 2000MB of storage.
the average user won't use 2 gigs, or even 1 gig, but some people fill their boxes.
my invites refill every day. So far i've used 33 megs. for the length of time Gmail assumes you will own a gmail box, i see 2 gigs as realistic for everybody considering you have everybody from attatchment whores to those who just write.

I have been hearing reports that the increase may start as soon as a few days... they may just keep running up the GBs till they max out room on the servers so everyone may get 2256Mb for example lol

if you goto gmail.com and your not signed into gmail it has a timer that adds up. Well if you change your clock on your PC to the 2nd or higher it stops at 2GBs. So i think that they are going to stop at 2GBs. They might go higher but not now there now.
