Microsoft's AntiSpyware Tool
Removes Internet Explorer

Many Microsoft Windows users who downloaded the recently released AntiSpyware program from Microsoft, or had it installed through an automatic Windows update, woke up to a surprise. Unintentionally, the heuristics of the software detected Internet Explorer as spyware, and removed the program from their systems.
Microsoft has pulled the program from its website until the problem can be corrected. Elias Weatherbee, a Microsoft representative, said the program was "only in beta" and that "a fix was forthcoming."

"It shows how powerful our AntiSpyware program is," said Weatherbee. "Not only is it able to remove spyware from the system, but also the source of most spyware. Our competitors can't match that.

LOL!

No not at all , in fact most people are'nt aware that IE has a hidden folder that stores ALL - I mean ALL your history , & I have in fact found spyware hidden in
the folder.
Iv'e found as much as 400mb in the folder on a friends XP-Home system.
He called me to help solve why it was as slow as a wet week.
AdAware detected nothing & he had anti-virus yet gave errors that iv'e only seen
spyware cause.
Open your Internet Options in Control Panel & left click the settings button then
left click the view files button. You'll now be in your temporary internet files folder.
Now single left click the address bar in the temp internet folder until the address
bar is black then press your right arrow button once so the bar is no longer
blacked out & continue typing within the address bar so the address looks like this

C:\Documents and Settings\KenOath\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\content.ie5

Although the KenOath bit wont be there ,just whatever your name is on your system.

So what you've added is the Content.ie5 bit to the end of what was already in
your address bar.

Then press the green Go button on the right of the address bar & now your in the
hidden folder that cannot be unhidden no matter what you try.
Anything in that folder should be deleted PRONTO , don't think twice about it.
It's the history of all sights visited since the day you set up internet explorer.
In fact check to see how much space you have on C: drive before & after you
clean this folder out , you'll be amazed if the system is 12 months or older.
You may find some files will not delete no matter how hard you try. Index.dat is
one of them which is alright, any others - iv'e found to be the cause of IE problems
& found once I remove the stubborn file the problems the system has had have
lessened or never shown again.

Well, it should remove IE because it is spyware mfr_lol.gif Besides, I wouldn't think M$ was that dumb.

There was a piece of software, called IEradicator if memory serves, that did remove Internet Explorer from earlier versions of Windows (Win 98 and Win Me).

I tried it and it made one hell of a difference to the performance of the operating system. Maybe somebody could attempt the same thing with XP?

(I've just checked Google and IEradicator is still available and its freeware if anybody is interested. The website for downloads is here:

IEradicator

What you are all forgetting is that MS didn't make this application, GIANT made all MS did was buy them out, and then just put there logo on it. Hell if you check the process name using task manager, you see that it is still called giantspyware.exe (or something similar)

When have you ever known a high ranking Microsoft official saying "Tough s***"?!

It's a joke, that's all.
rudybankson
Ya know the other thing that would make that impossible to happen is that the scan in the middle of the night displays the results for you the next morning. You would then have to tell it to go along and delete IE.

hey KenOath

I tried your IE hidden internet files but I did not find anything, I changed it to .ie6 and it still did not work.. any suggestions?

Well, well, well......
Don't be sooo defensive about the reliability of MS Anti-spyware now.....

After all, I installed it two weeks ago and found it downgraded my IE 6 to IE 5 after performing some crtical updates this weekend.

Unless I'm missing something here and have gone off the deep end of dementia, its happened to two people + so far (me included)

OBTW, My Dell Latitude D600 comes with Windows 2000 SP3 which contains ONLY
IE 5.5 SP2 only.

Explain this?

OUTDATED BIOS VERSION?
BAD CHIPSET?
CAUSE AND EFFECT?
WHERE THERE'S SMOKE, THERE'S FIRE?
CHICKEN OR THE EGG?
WHAT COMES AROUND, GOES AROUND?
BAD KARMA?

This came out in January, but I wasn't sure if you guys had seen it.

Or you could just go into internet options and clear cache and delete offline files.

Also i can remember one day trauling throught the registry one day and i found a reg folder that contained all and i mean ALL website i had been on since install. I know it was in current user.

It's in Micrsoft and Internet Explorer. But i would suggest going through the registry in current user with anything to do with internet and things you have been on luckly i am a FF convert.
