I'm having a mild predicament. I consider myself a media guru - though I own a nice Entertainment system, my PC is also a very very nice Entertainment system in itself. I ... 'acquired' a copy of MCE 2005 recently and though I've used it in the past, I must say using it at my leasure has, tweaked me. I've fallen in love.

I know I want XP64 bit for the sheer power of it. Despite what anyone says, from MY own testing, it's faster and I want that speed. Yet, the media junkie inside needs MCE 2005. I won't be buying both....what do you suggest I do? Do you think they'll make a Hybrid of MCE 2005 that will work with 64bit? Should I wait, go with my junkie or go with the techie in me? All in all, I really want a single OS to be my main so even if I didn't mind shelling out 300 between both, I'd only comfortably be using 1 anyway.

I haven't had the opportunity to take MCE 2005 for a test drive yet, I will be doing that this weekend. But it is just XP with extra media enhancements. XP 64 is nice and the OS itself does run faster, but, and this is a big but, the applications that run on it dont have any speed increase at all because the applications are still compiled in 32 bit. I have a 64 bit machine running and I am somewhat impressed with the crispness of the OS, but as far as doing my day to day tasks, running Office, Macromedia Studio MX 2004, Photoshop CS and other apps, there is no difference at all. So, if I were you, until software developers begin to compile their applications in 64 bit, I would use MCE 2005 and get the extra benefits of having all of the media enhancements.

I agree with Kelp here...your at the mercy of the coders as far as 64 bit does...the ground work is laid but the coders have to do their part and their very slow. Plus if you got XP already...when 64 comes out jus call em up and they will let u download the 64 one ...im still sure their gonna make it OEM

Go with MCE05, not a need for 64 bit I dont really think there is that much of a difference/advantage at this point.
