I believe that these people are, yes; hippy decscendants and just like Vietnam. they are spoiled college kids who don't wanna go to war so they cover up by protesting it as a propeganda war. and ya know what, some people have nothing better to do than to complain, I've found in my life that some people just need to complain and give others a hard time just so they can feel human and feel alive. Also, I think bringing colin powell into the mix was a sorry as $H$( idea because he was the punk who didn't wanna hurt anyone in the first Gulf War "There is no reason for too many casulties in this war" in my opinion, Colin Powell isn't even a general, he's just a scared boy running through the jungles of vietnam trying to survive peacefully.

WOW!!!! i cannot even begin to believe what i am reading in here!!! i thought i was having a bad anti-america(i hate USA i worship sadaam) nightmare. i spent the last few months posting on a board(will go unamed but is extremely popular in beta community) that just absolutely HATES USA w/ every single fibre of their being...the funny thing is about 50% of the posters were from USA. i really am surprised and relieved to see many of the posts here, as i was beginning to believe i was the only rational person left on the planet. i darn sure am NOT saying that the US is always "mistake free" but it sure is nice to read posts that actually support the country and the troops. also kinda nice to see posts that DONT support sadaam(thus being pro-rape, pro-torture, pro-murder, pro-dip prisoners in acid, pro-drop criminals feet first in wood chippers, cuz ppl that support sadaam (dont support USA) take this stance.

2b fair, there were 2 other ppl who love USA on my previous posting place

In response to "and they are stupid hippie decendants" - a lot of good and necessary change came out of the so called hippie revolution. As a participant of those times, I saw basically two categories: Your brainless doper flowerchild and your intellectual activist. It's still a free country of expression, positive or negative. Once the Iraq War began, the protests should have stopped and all people should have rallied behind the troops, saving any criticism for the debating forums. Most comments I see are biased, full of emotion rather than logic, and not supported with research and knowledge. I went to Vietnam to protect the freedom of All as an Aireborne Ranger where I was a LRRP. When I came back to the world, I was spit on and called a baby killer. I hope no other soldier has to experience the emptiness I felt then...

Wow, thats crazy. I dont think the solders should have to pay for a decision that they didnt make which is to go to war. I also agree with you where protesting is needed, but once the war starts, they should support the troops, and leave the protesting for which government should be appointed after victory is declared.

Apr 7 2003, 12:33 AM
Are you saying that freedom of speech should be gone while there is war? People who see this war as a bad thing should have the right to say that. Isn't free speech one of the freedoms that these soldiers are fighting for?
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials, 18 April 1946.

Profound words, beta-guy. Don't misunderstand me guys, I'm all for free speech. But ask yourself, what are the effects of major protesting at this point in the game? Positive or negative? And when a citizen raises his right hand to swear to protect the country, he/she must do exactly that. And we also belong in Iraq for the sake of the Iraqians, save anything else. Their was such a malevolent degree of protesting in the Vietnam Era, that it's left a bad taste in my mouth - there were bad choices, decisions, acts made by politicians And citizens alike, and the soldier was the fall guy. I've seen protesting at its ugliest...

yea but see beta guy when ur protest turn into violence ur whole purpose is stupid then ... people laying down in the street in NYC acting dead... while some person on the other side of the city is having a heartattack wont be saved cause the ambulance cant get there cause of stupid protesters... u have ur own opinion of things but it dont require storming washington and causing riots just cause ur against it ... Soldiers didnt have any say in it.. they just do their job and people still hate...

i support bush and the troops...the iraqi people want us there as u can tell how they welcome us... they will finally be free
