I would love to get to try out an apple OS without having to buy a whole new computer.

YES! APPLE, PORT IT!!!

They've done it already. Rhapsody works with x86 machines (I have DR1), and recently there has been news about Macs with AMD CPUs inside (see http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=7023)

Apple needs to make their OS compatible with an X86 so that users can use it. Doing this would give microsoft a run for their money. I refuse to buy an apple becuase they run at half the speed an X86 platform can run at.

I used MacOS only for 5 minutes in my whole life (18 years). I would like to try it without buying a MAC!

I think if they did it would put alot of pressure on microsoft could bring alot of good things. They should do it.
Unwonted
There's already a well-known, non-MS, x86 OS that is inexpensive and runs just fine, but still few people use it. It would be a bad business move for Apple to use all that R&D on a market that doesn't yet desire a competitor.

apple just a bunch of lazy people tho...

it would be nice to dual boot between windows and apple.

I hate Apple for just saying something along the lines of well gee we're a hardware company, not a software company. dang Apple would be make a nice about of money if they just ported it over to the X86 in 1998 during the anti-trust trials against MS, at the time everyone as looking for an alternative, but even now people wantto play with (myself included) if Aplle charged a fair price for it, and put in a emulator of some sort (so you could run the mac program natively) I'm sure it would be a hit one the main reasons windows is so popular is Windows immitates the MacOS look/feel Aplle should be kicking themselves for not releasing it sooner hehe I could add I'd like too see Apple port it to the AMD x86-64 cause the 64 bit CPU's are still fighting for who will be the dominate OS, personally I don'r know if it's Linux orWindows (I think Linux beat MS to porting it over to the x86-64)
