I think that Max Payne 2 requires directX 9 capabilities and the ability to have hardware transform & lighting support. You may have to upgrade your card to run that. And I'm wondering what you're running for RAM and a processor. It could also just be a corrupt file. Try re-installing the game. You've probably done that, but I just thought I'd say it anyway. If you can you could try installing on your primary HD as well.
I'm just throwing out ideas. Just a stab in the dark I guess.
Just to add to that, XPSP2 sometimes gives problems with games. Quite possibly it's that.

I'm talking about Max Payne 1 not about the Fall of Max Payne. Didin't you understand what I wrote? - Max Payne (The First one)
And no, I don't have any programming apps installed

Damn, this makes no sense.
1 Try running Max Payne in Compatibility mode (Doubt this will work but you never know)
2 Update your GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64 MB driver to the latest

1. Failed
2. Latest? You mean nVidia 67.20
BTW, tried to open an intro file in the Movies folder and the same error appeared and explorer crashed.
I'm starting to think that I have a spoilage CD

I'll try to install it on other PC and see if it works.

Instead of creating a new thread I'm gonna ask here:
I have this problem running some games (Quake III Arena, Alphaball). This happened somedays ago and after running a game config_GL.ini file appears with
CODE
[3DAnalyze]
WireFrameMode=0
DisableDrawing=0
FrameCounter=1
PerfLogging=0
DisableTextures=0
ForceSmallTexture=0
CountDown=0
DebugLog=0
SaveShaders=0
ForceAniso=0
in it.
Yes, I had 3D-Analyze installed. I heard a rummor about Half-Life 2 that if you change Vendor ID and Device ID to ATI's card then HL2 will run at 20 FPS faster

And after this the Problem began

. Anyone got ID how to fix this?

Nigma, about the error with max payne. Simply add in the target line of your shortcut of max payne -skipstartup. For exapmle : Target: "C:\Games\Max Payne\MaxPayne.exe" -skipstartup
This will help

If you could please tell me does it works.

Max Payne's real problem was one stupid video file in the "Movies" folder. I've deleted the whole movies folder and the problem was gone

Windows reinstalliation didint actualy help, my friend gave me a ripped copy of MP and I noticed that Movies folder was not in it so... you know the ending now

About HL2 problem, well the problem is long gone

good'ol format c did the trick. Thanks for the help anyways.
