Since I'm a SuSE Linux user I prefer Amarok with it's ability to fetch streaming radio and burning capability thanks to it's integration with K3B. Prior to using Linux I preferred iTunes over Windows Media Player due to it's logical UI and lack of spam links in the radio station selections.

Actually just as iTunes the latest version of Amarok v1.1.1 fetches the playlist from the online database. I presume like iTunes where the database is maintained by Apple that the Amarok developer team help to maintain their player database. Anyway to access the playlist simply open Amarok click on "PL" which means "Playlist" then access the playlist database by clicking on the playlist icon (folder with music note symbol on the left column). You can also add to the playlist by clicking on "Add Playlist" or edit the playlist by right mouse clicking to see additional options. This is how I added additional streaming radio stations. I noticed the latest is similar to iTunes in that the player allows drag & drop of media content and it will attempt to locate the album cover for a song listed in the database or obtained from your music directory folder. It can also be set to scan selected directory folders of your choosing using the new set-up wizard. More information on using Amarok can be found in "Help" or online at the developer website here (
http://amarok.kde.org/ ). Amarok is supported on RPM & Debian based Linux distributions as well as FreeBSD. If you use an RPM based distribution such as SuSE Linux, Mandrake Linux, Fedora Core, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Whitebox Linux, etc then you can find the latest compiled RPM binary on RPM search engines such as
http://rpm.pbone.net/

Winamp, it really whips the llama's a$$ (I've always wanted to post that somewhere

)
I also use it with FoxyTunes, that way I never have to leave Firefox when browsing Flexbeta for example

for videos though, i prefer BSPlayer

I think I agree with Bhavik on this one.
VLC is the $hit!
It has unparalleled ability to play partial and streaming files.
It can stream audio/video in just about any codec you can get your hands on.
Its on just about every operating system.
It truly can play everything. I mean EVERYTHING. Divx,Xvid,mp3,ogg vorbis, ogm, mpg, mp3. You can play dvd's. You can even play iso's of unburnt dvds or cds. You stream file s online even as your watching them from virtually any source.
VLC can even work with capture devices such as ATI theater, dv cams.
It's very stable, has'nt crashed on me yet, even when I play corrupt or incomplete files.
It has skins, simple library. Its everything a media player should be minus the bull$hit.

I like VLC, but its homegrown codecs bother me.
For songs, I use foobar2000: it's hands-down the best audio player available.

I'm just the opposite. Amarok is cool, but for some reason, I prefer the simplicity of XMMS. I guess it's because I'm used to Winamp.

Glad to see amarok's popular tho..

Yeh, winamps my prime media player, although yesterday I did have to downgrade a plugin to get a midi working. Itunes seems too much hassle especially when it comes to syncing with Ipod. In winamp its as simple as dragging as rightclicking a playlist.
