Full Version: Favorite Media Player for songs?
Flexbeta > General > General > Sound Studio

Since I'm a SuSE Linux user I prefer Amarok with it's ability to fetch streaming radio and burning capability thanks to it's integration with K3B. Prior to using Linux I preferred iTunes over Windows Media Player due to it's logical UI and lack of spam links in the radio station selections.

iTunes I think is the best smile.gif

But you forgot to say WinAmp in your list wink.gif
Nigma
Are you discriminating Winamp Dark_Knight? smile.gif

Actually just as iTunes the latest version of Amarok v1.1.1 fetches the playlist from the online database. I presume like iTunes where the database is maintained by Apple that the Amarok developer team help to maintain their player database. Anyway to access the playlist simply open Amarok click on "PL" which means "Playlist" then access the playlist database by clicking on the playlist icon (folder with music note symbol on the left column). You can also add to the playlist by clicking on "Add Playlist" or edit the playlist by right mouse clicking to see additional options. This is how I added additional streaming radio stations. I noticed the latest is similar to iTunes in that the player allows drag & drop of media content and it will attempt to locate the album cover for a song listed in the database or obtained from your music directory folder. It can also be set to scan selected directory folders of your choosing using the new set-up wizard. More information on using Amarok can be found in "Help" or online at the developer website here ( http://amarok.kde.org/ ). Amarok is supported on RPM & Debian based Linux distributions as well as FreeBSD. If you use an RPM based distribution such as SuSE Linux, Mandrake Linux, Fedora Core, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Whitebox Linux, etc then you can find the latest compiled RPM binary on RPM search engines such as http://rpm.pbone.net/

Real player used to be good but then i got to full of rubbish and pop ups and it has an annoying song format .RAM
Bhavik
I think VLC Media Player is the best
Tobb555
Winamp for audio and WMP for video
Bloodflame
Winamp, it really whips the llama's a$$ (I've always wanted to post that somewhere biggrin.gif)
I also use it with FoxyTunes, that way I never have to leave Firefox when browsing Flexbeta for example smile.gif

for videos though, i prefer BSPlayer
mmoseley
Nahh has to be WMP! all the way!!!

Sturdy and reliable (something good from MS) lol

windows media player is the one i like, preferably version 8.
axel_2078
For Windows, winamp. For Linux, XMMS or amaroK.
jerlark386
I think I agree with Bhavik on this one.
VLC is the $hit!

It has unparalleled ability to play partial and streaming files.
It can stream audio/video in just about any codec you can get your hands on.
Its on just about every operating system.

It truly can play everything. I mean EVERYTHING. Divx,Xvid,mp3,ogg vorbis, ogm, mpg, mp3. You can play dvd's. You can even play iso's of unburnt dvds or cds. You stream file s online even as your watching them from virtually any source.

VLC can even work with capture devices such as ATI theater, dv cams.

It's very stable, has'nt crashed on me yet, even when I play corrupt or incomplete files.
It has skins, simple library. Its everything a media player should be minus the bull$hit.
heliologue
I like VLC, but its homegrown codecs bother me.

For songs, I use foobar2000: it's hands-down the best audio player available.

I just started using amarok on my ubuntu system today and am fairly impressed. I was using xmms before, and while I didnt dislike it, i definatly like amarok better.

I'm just the opposite. Amarok is cool, but for some reason, I prefer the simplicity of XMMS. I guess it's because I'm used to Winamp.
egnaro
Yeah im starting to get annoyed by amarok in a few cases. Ive been going back and forward between amarok and xmms depending on the mood.
OutlandishTrendz
I used to use Winamp, but now im stuck on WMP10. Just wish your could minimize it to the tray without having to use a 3rd party app.

I've been addicted to RealOne Player, but I only use that on my girlfriend's computer since I don't have it.

RealOne gets on my nerves a bit. Any software where you have to wade through a ton of ads just so you can use it is a pain.

Glad to see amarok's popular tho..

mukmaster
Winamp for the Mukman. Nothing beats it quality wise !!
dn2004
media player classic or itunes as it syncs easy with my ipod and no pluggins needed like winamp
Outcast
Winamp now have out-of-the-box iPod support. Make sure you check against it when installing.
Xoria
Yeh, winamps my prime media player, although yesterday I did have to downgrade a plugin to get a midi working. Itunes seems too much hassle especially when it comes to syncing with Ipod. In winamp its as simple as dragging as rightclicking a playlist.

iTunes, for my iPod and for organization as well.
Stephancelmare360
I use Real Player, or Windows Media Player 11 beta. I find Winamp a little of my tastes, but I use itunes for music browseing... and itunes is the best, but I am used to Real player the most.

Itune for listening the Music tongue.gif
davidjames2009
iTunes, mainly because of the bloody brilliant user interface and fast browsing of my songs

I always hated the WMP music library it never seemed easy or fast to access but iTunes is just awesome, plus it syncs with my iPod!

davidjames2009
I've tried WMP11, it doesnt have a scratch on iTunes for just how god damn easy and fast it is to find the music you want!

And party shuffle rules..
Outcast
Yeh, WMP 11 catagorisation is not bad. However, I still hate the oversize album arts.
dotslash
Love Amarok, wish it was on Windows as i've never ever ever found a media player i've liked (tried em all) for windows so i've just stuck with WMP.

WMP11 looks promising though...
Xahi4475
Windows Media Player 11. smile.gif
Stephancelmare360
The only thing that is annoying with Windows 11 beta is that it has that "Urge" thing installed... but it looks great on my Windows XP machine...

can anyone provide some screenshots from there Vista Powered pc a pic of Windows Media Player 11?
Pr0digy
I used to use iTunes for all my listening, but since WMP11 was released I've been using it.
