What r u using to measure the cpu temp? Prescott's die at about 174 degrees, I had an xp2000. It was idling at about 116, under load it would get to 140.

i take the case/side pannel off my computer as little as possible coz its got a fan plugged into it and its a pain in the arse to plug back in

wow , i dont even know how hot mine is ......is there a prog that will tell u the temperature of the cpu ?
it will tell ya in the bios ... 
ill just do a search for a proggy if ya want

Cokeman, I was talking about ide cables, power supply cables placed haphazardly in the case blocking airflow. Also, leave the covers on, and make sure all the pci slots are covered. You might want to put another fan in the case too.
ya i got a lot a those but theres nothig i can do i got power ide isb 3.5 mm fierwier going all over my case
