15% system resources. This PC should crash A--B--O--U--T Now.
This is the major diference between the NT kernel and the 9x kernel.
On windows 98/ME you have very limited resources.

How much uptime do you get on windows ME?
The most I got on ME or 98 without crashing was 22 hours. Contrary to what people say, ME was more stable than 98 expecially when system resources go low.

Go to system Accessories>System Information> Tools, Go through and become familiar with all the information, co to system configuration and the startup tab, all you need running there is Scan Reg, Task Mon. & System Tray. Uncheck schedular and all other OS tasks but leave what you want as far as other running programs. I generally boot with only 3 items in my startup. If you have 2 drives, move your swap file to the secondary under vurtual memory. move the file system properties up to network server, and move the read ahead all the way up to full. Under troubleshooting disable system restore, as it doesn't work well in ME anyways. Under System Configuration>General>Advanced disable scandisk at startup. On defrag, enable make my programs load faster, disable scheduler, as this slows the system down.
~edit~ you may want to look at your system resources before and after, i guarantee an increase. plus take notice of your boot time - you'll find this about a 80% increase over your old settings
