I hate having to fix everyone's stuff too but I started charging money for my services...I made 20 bucks for formating a friends hard drive, and while we waited for it to format we played Soul Caliber 2. biggrin.gif ahhh the easy life
Linoman
Yeah, from next year. I'm charging no matter what I have to do!
hacker_god
I need to start chargin for some of the things i do for other ppl's computers............if they dont like it, then they (generally family) can either find someone else to do it or learn to do it themselves wink.gif

The problem I have with taking money is that it makes me feel so guilty. Yes I know there is nothing wrong with it, but its really hard for me to do (accept money).

But then again some problems can be a real pain to fix. Such as those incompatibility problems due to drivers etc.
BlueScreenOfDeath
tell ur conscious to shut up then lol.

honestly ben lol we were lookin at these freakin houses out in Roseville, CA ...the "house" she liked was 674,950 bucks lol ...at the minimum i gotta make 60k a year ...God help me biggrin.gif

the way I see it is it's fun to fix computers, it's like a game, you vs. the computer, the computer will do what it can to mess with you, but if you use stratagy, you can beat it tongue.gif

anyways, that being said I also get tired of fixing my nieghbors computer, they got a laser printer (oh joy for me) when they can't print, they'll call me to fix it, and laser printers are a major paint, it the most complex printer and you can't single down a problem to just 1 component, so there you go, they all lookto us computer experts as titans of sorts, when we are still human, I mean I fix thier computer for free. kinda sux for me I'm almost broke, but anyways I just justify it by saying that I fix thier computer for the computer, computers are people too tongue.gif

Since I work with computers/internet people tend to think I am a free resource..

At some periods in life it just went out tha window and now I allmost have no friends outside my own office.. It's just to hard having people asking about their tiny issues after a hard day at work so I don't think it's worth it.

I mean I solve major problems all day and then having to cope with their fu**ing software firewall issues and crap.. NO WAY..sad.gif

SO for the last few years I mainly go out with people from work and don't bother trying to get new friends.. Also allot of internet buddies..smile.gif

Only problem is my wife left me and I don't want to get together with anyone from work..sad.gif Major bummer..sad.gif

I guess that one needs to learn how to say NO!

I know the problem. i fix my friends computers for free, but friends of friends have to pay.I am still cheaper then phonesupport....and actually fix the problems(phonesupport never manage to find the fault problem). but for my friends and my family it usually pays of in some way(like a couple of free bears at the local pub, nicer gifts for my birthday and xmas, than everybody else of my friends. And YES i can always tell when a new virus i out....usually 10-15 messages on my phone
glitch409

LMBO. Thats hilarious. Yea, my parents are sorta like that. Im like the only one who uses the computer nowadays, except for my sister (bandwidth hog wacko.gif ) tongue.gif My dad will write me these notes (when im not home and hes not home) saying you better fix this thing and blah blah blah, end up, all he needed to do was restart the comp or router. As long as his account works, i can do practically whatever i want to do with this beast. I recently got into the "fixing computers" field, lol. Gettin paid like crazy. Built my dad's friend's comp, there's gonna be like 3 more people who want a comp built for them. Cant wait! biggrin.gif Just learned how to make a webserver and all that, another one of my dad's friend is interested in all that stuff. REALLY CANT WAIT!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
