i just installed McAfee Professional 7 *RETAIL* version, the Virus scan installs good but when the firewall is going to install i get this error "McAfee Firewall encountered an error attempting to install the the network filter driver." i dont know why because i had it installed last week and it was fine. biggrin.gif
any comments?

*EDIT*
also im not sure but i think its possible, Can Viruses cause Bluescreens? blink.gif
hussam
Try uninstalling mcafee firewall and virusscan, then go to network connections, right click on local area connection -> properties
Check if "mcafee network firewall filter " is still in the list, if yes click "uninstall". Also search for all instances of this file "NaiFiltr.sys" and delete tham "this is the one that's probably causing blue screens".
but keep "C:\Program Files\McAfee VirusScan Professional Edition 7.03 Retail\WINXP\NaiFiltr.sys"

Also you have to get windows not to verify unsigned device drivers.
Restart the computer and install mcafee (this will reinstall "network associates" drivers).

Mcafee is an excellent product ( i'm using it ) but it has some driver issues.

As the blue screens, could you check the event log and "copy paste" the system error here?

remove any and ALL McAfee files... symantec norton av does this too...when files are left behind...make sure u remove them all then try reinstaling it
hussam
Actually that's the problem with anivirus and firewall software not uninstalling their drivers correctly.including mcafee which leaves the network filter driver on the system. Anyway, uninstalling the left behind drivers before reinstalling should solve the problem. All mcafee drivers are made by nai which owns the mcafee department.
So check for nai*.sys with company name "Network Associates, Inc."
these are the files that are left over.

thanks alot guys let me go try it out now... biggrin.gif

What nvidia detonator drivers are you using ? some versions can cause this error.
Try 44.03 or 45.23, and try reinstalling dx9.0b

Also read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;330187
there is a fix which might help you, but you have to call microsoft for that.
unfortunately Microsoft does not post everything on windows update

{ Personally i'm still trying to get my hand on the fix in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;824236 }
Also does this error happen randomly or when u use games or media player. One more thing, disable the hibernate feature and see if it helps.

i also found this article but it only tells you to update nvidia drivers http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;325730

so try upgrading the nvidia drivers and post back what happens

ht990332, im am using the Detonator FX(its the one Nvidia recommends when i go to there site) http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_45.23...
yea the BSOD happens regularly, usually when i am using up alot of ram, sometimes just out the blue i get the blue too wacko.gif ......in the windows update there is an update for my video card but when i install it, and reboot when im loging in the windows xp welcome song or whateva that lil music is sounds distorted but when i install the driver that i displayed here it doesnt happen and the driver microsoft update recommends is older then the one i got installed.
how would i go about disabling the hibernate feature and also uninstalling dx9..thanxx

*EDIT*

I did everything you guys told me unistalled the network filter driver also deleted all mcafee files(through the search engine), just tried to reinstall the firewall but to no avail because the error once again "unable to install the network filter driver" the virus scan install lovely, just the @#$@# firewall is the problem..

im on my 3rd try, reinstalling McAfee virus scan and firewall, also all its files(did my best looking, systems folder,registry,etcc..)found all files with "NaiFiltr.sys" deleted them, also some other McAfee files, is there a program that will trace left behind McAfee files and delete them like for the Nvidia Detonators?, is there some way i can get the firewall to install.(tried 2 different installations sources)
thanxx

Default, first of all sorry I did not reply to your post earlier. My cable modem was not working for the last two days.
Anyway try running the following from the command prompt regsvr32 /u NaiFiltr.sys
also search for this file ( in windows folder) NaiFiltr.inf and NaiFiltr.cat and delete them.
This might help with the driver issue.
Also try deleting the C:\Program Files\McAfee VirusScan Professional Edition 7.03 Retail and re-extracting the pakage again.
Also when u install the virusscan without the firewall, does it work?
As for the cleanup, I contacted mcafee for you ( my brother's company buys enterprise products from mcafee ) and asked but they don't support cleanup utilities because they can delete software licences from the registry.
Also, did you delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\mcafee and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\network associates\ from the registry before reinstalling
As, for the blue screen thingy, they did solve the Win32k.sys bug in the sp2 v. 1213
keep me posted.
default
nice to see you back ht990332, i did all except for deleting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\network associates\. and yea when i installed the viruscan without firewall it does work. thanks i just finished deleting network associates from the registry and reinstalled mcafee pro edition 7.0. IT WORKED!!! biggrin.gif , thanks for calling mcafee big helpp man. as for the blue screen imma have to install sp2. 1213 do you know where can i get it, i saw it on here but dont know if its still up for download.

*edit*
is that the lastest service pack?
hussam
Ok I'm glad it worked. With the fuss lately about worms and virus, everybody's gonna need good virusscan protection.
As for the sp2 beta build try http://www.flexbeta.net/main/modules.php?m...tion=show&id=77
It's open for registered flexbeta users.
Also, no it's not the latest service pack (does not contain the blaster worm fix).
In fact, by installing it you won't be able to run windowsupdate anymore, so I wouldn't install it unless the BSOD problem is very severe.
default
thanxx, for the download but its down, no worries i got it from another source(I herd rumors about 1224), i just installed it and i clicked windows update and it takes me to da updates.how doesnt it let me run it nomore do u mean download updates.as long as i got my mcafee av and firewall up and running i shouldnt have to worry much about virus/worms.let's see if the BSODs stop since installation of sp2 1213 havent gotten one
ill keep you posted if i do, if i do then i know what is the problem(ram) my MOBO(A7s333) is real sensitive to ram type.
