An Athlon 2800+? Geez... You would take such a big hit in cost because you have a fairly expensive processor already. I doubt a shiny, new Pentium will be worth the staggering cost you would suffer. But if money is not a consideration to you, sell it to me for really cheap and get the Pentium

no point in gettin a faster cpu ...u have one the fastest and u wont notice any performance hardly... ur just wasting ur bones.. only thing id do is pop in DDR400...but if ur hell bent on a P4 rig get one thats based on the Springdale 865PE chipset (trust me ur wallet will thank u) ...and a 2.4C Pentium 4

lol if I had a 2.8ghz athlon (which I wouldn't cause I'd never buy a AMD I'd buy a Intel...) but anyways, I wouldn't upgrade already....
But for everyone else....best bang for the buck...
as ryan mentioned beofre, and me and default just set up, (I685) Springdale motherboard (with RAID IDE and RAID SATA) and all that good stuff, Intel Pent 4 2.4ghz 800mhz FSB (basically same CPU as top of the line 3.0ghz 800mhz fsb just clocked at 2.4 by intel) and (2) 256mb sticks of ddr400 from OCZ or Corsair, or Kingston (its up to you on brand and they arn't that much farther priced apart)
Then OC your 2.4ghz cpu up to what it is easily capable of running (3.3ghz is currently stable with stock cooling) Then voom voom your off for about 450 bucks USA.

dont know bout 3.3 lol ..they begin runnin lil hot when u apporach 3.0+ id stick with just 3.0 Ghz as an easy OC ... but then again it all depends on how hot they run at that speed... u might have a 2.4C oc-ed to 3.3 runnin a cold 80F

Ah, much better. I can hear myself think now! Damn noisy f'ers amd's are
PENTIUM 4 IS NOT AS GOOD AS AND ATHLON.
IT IS PROVEN THAT ATHLONS PERFORMANCE
RATE IS HIGHER THAT THAT OF P4. AS I AM
AM A COMPUTER ENGINEER I KNOW.
Edited by Flexbeta staff, please buddy if your a computer engineer read the rules and don't post in all caps, it looks like a third grader...First, being a scavy computer user, I will give you one thing, 1)amd's have a better aritecture, and tit for tat, run faster.. Now this is where I'm gonna brake your heart, the current top Intel CPU kills the current top AMD CPU, sorry buddy, with the 3.2ghz Pent 4, 800mhz fsb with Hyper Threading will kick any AMD.
