I saw that news post kelpfries made about those ethical hackers making alll that money, for a while now, I've been interested in learning to hack but there is a real market out there for hackers (the good ones) and well I was wondering if there were some sites (that are legal) that teach people how to hack and maybe build a career out of it, I mean I already fix computers :-)

lol i dunt think so, but there is lots of hacker sites, it something that you should learn by yourself.

In order to be a "cracker", you can't just learn how to hack, and how to use hacking tools, you need to understand, in depth, how a complete network operates. Its not something you can learn by reading a book or going to a web site, it takes a lot of schooling to fully understand networking protocols and system operations.

Sorry, but there is no quick and easy way.
Gsurface
Yp as Kelp said, it takes alot of understanding of protocols, especially tcp/ip which is a story of t's own. Many of those "Crackers" out there are just script kitties that take an already developed exploit and just exploit it some more, no real brains in doing that.
beta-guy
I know about the script kiddies, and I have no desire to end up like them, I got hacked by one (back orifice) anyways I didn't thikn it was a quick thing to learn, I mean I didn't get my MCP over night lol

LOL yeah but there is liek over hundrads of guides pre tests ect on getting your MCP heck walk into barnes and noble you can access lots and lots of books, and stuff on getting your MCP...now there is about 2 or 3 good books in there on hacking, most are just "security books" but point out the basic minds of a hacker, and what you should be thinking inside your mind (if you were to try to stop a hacker in a network its best to put yourself in the mindset of being a hacker) (so I've read)
Anyways, after learning to think about where to look and view stuff, usually is good idea to start out using other open doors and previous hacks, just to get use to stuff, then move on to actually learning and understanding how all the protocols talk to each other and interact, and of course the valuabilites of each, and possible "might be able to use this to get this to get this to open up something" mind set...
Then yeah...once you find a open thing thats not known, pretty much killing spree hitting multiple servers that use same program or have same possible recurable problem....

~Good luck~

Nobody has so far, but just a reminder before this topic gets out of hand, do not post links to hacking tools, information on how to hack, hacking tips etc.

Thanks

i used to know where there were a few sites that let you attempt to hack them to learn how hackers do it by doing it yourself. If you look for them you might be able to find a few "hacking games", which actually let you attempt to hack. Only on certain sites is it legal for you to even attempt to hack, and i don't condone hacking, it is so you can learn how to protect yourself, it is useful.
beta-guy
your technichally right, but not admins won't mind if they are hacked, and you tell them how you did it, and possibly have a way to patch it up, because as far as teh admin is cconcerned you just gave him a free security check :-)

I haven't read any other posts but will after posting my opinion.. then will comment on what was said..

Ethical Hacking... hmm.. I think the only thing ethical about hacking is when the hacked party knows that there is someone trying to access their system via means not 'the usual'

I mean if someone wants to build a network and say hey you can you try and see if you can acess my system, - and I can sit here and monitor.. that ethical cause your trying as a team..

but to those who just have no life and take enjoyment of accessing other peoples sites for fun.. without the other party knowing.. to do damage.. those are the fools..

cause if you think of it.. if they were smart they'd draft up a nice email.. resume and such and actually forward it to the webmaster and JUST MAYBE they can get $$$ for what they want to do..

now trying to access files which aren't meant for their eyes kinda hacking.. thats just beng nosy ,.. because they don't have anything intresting going around in their life.. so they have to but their nose in others..

all these people.. "oh I wanna learn how to hack" sure nlots of context out there to learn how to hack.. but to tell ya the truth it's all outdated and its all the ground basics.. you have to know some type of basic programming to be able to hack..

as for my attempts of hacking.. the only thing I have successfully hacked was my Cable ISP and uncapping my modem at their end.. but then they find out quick enuf they cut me off.. I got better things to do in my time smile.gif blink.gif

Go on KazaaLite (of your fav P2P Sharing tool) and download the game UpLink its about 22MB

Its a hacking game.. kinda hard to get used to and not overly great in graphics.. but Fantastic in Detail smile.gif
