This is disgusting:
http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Entertainment/a...30718_1322.htmlApparently the RIAA now has 871 subpoenas for people sharing songs. Some have as few as 5 songs shared. That is insane.
The RIAA has to be the worst thugs to come around in a long time... even far worse than Microsoft. I don't share songs, but have sympathy for anyone who does and is caught up in this crap. Personally I don't know how the RIAA employees sleep at night, knowing the lives they truely enjoy ruining.
I guess we can also thank our congress for giving the RIAA the power to get supoenas without even a judges written consent. The good ol USA. Not.

They are just trying to scare everyone off from using file sharing programs. I think someone should sue them for invasion of privacy or for hacking the file sharing networks. Get Johnny Cockren in there and start lobbying against these monsters. Those two congress men are probably recieving some campagne money for helping the RIAA.

Reminds me of the U.S. "Prohibition" era where we had a law (the 18th Amendment to the Constitution which prohibited the sale or use of alcohol) that was both unpopular and unenforceable. Legislators will change their tune as the public becomes more vocal and they lose elections over such petty matters.

true and I want that to change I want "internet" to be treated like a new country, where the laws of earth don't apply where there is a common respect for people and corporations have no place, and it things likr RIAA, Microsft trying to abuse the internet with thier Windows Product Activiation technology. and those horrible popup windows/spam we need to rethink the internet and remove that which is evil!

EFF is fighting for our online rights, but I don't know any other groups like this, from what I know they have an army of lawyers and htey are doing thier best to get back/keep our online freedoms. The best thing we can do is join them or donate to them to keep them running, the idea of that book 1984 coming true scares me but I'm sure you can see that that's where we are headed when cororations and governments want to abolish our privacy and rights.
I did a search for RIAA and
here is the list of stuff I found

RIAA has shut down a lot of online radio's sites and now they are going after p2p users. What's next? soon we will not be able to play no music without having the RIAA telling us what we can play and can't.

Jul 22 2003, 03:42 AM
yeah, but it not that simple, first you have to go on thier own Inter that costs about 10 bucks a minute then you download 2 things 1. a contract that they some how got to be as big as 50 MB and an application, after you download both (their internet at it's fastest can go at 56k lol) then you read the entire contract because the for you have to fill out will quiz you on it. the for also has you give them you credit card number (incase they even think you stole music) every single way to contact you (so they can sell the list to spammers) and the song(s) you want to listen to, but since they don't support e-mail you'll have you mail it thru snail mail and wait 6 - 8 week depending on the amount of mail they get after all that you may listen to your song(s) 1 time if you want to listen to it again you must repeat this whole process hehe now you know why they want you to stop sharing music... j/k

I hear that lawyers doubt that the RIAA can sucessfully sue a person in Canada for that file sharing stuff, not sure why, I guess it's the fact we pay I thikn it's 30 cents more for CD-R/CD-RW's and that money goes to the RIAA incase we might download some great MP3, so I have to say to Americans Welcome the the land of the free, and join Canada, Canada the country where we have more rights then Americans!

I just found another recent news article that mentions the future file sharing programs that I heard about in the past. Supposedly they promise anonymouse file sharing that ISP's can't even crack. Here was the story on time.com (it mentions it in the 2nd to last paragraph).

lol now that would be nice, tho the problem with that is the governments wouldn't allow it, they'd make it illegal for you to download/use, because you could be using that technology to commit crimes (Software piracy)
Runmymouth
Jul 29 2003, 02:39 AM
no, but it isnt illegal to use it, cause buisness, you claim for buisness and they cant do s***, also you are innocent untill they can catch you. so it might work.

YAY capitalism! The RIAA should never have been allowed to get this big, with the greed of human nature, all you need are people running something that big or bigger to crush lives.

dude the 14yr kid sounds like what my dad thinks is gonna happen to me...I've stopped using plain kazaa long time, no operate with kazaa lite k++ which blocks some ip's and also run p2pgardeuan. And am also behind routor and running Norton along with Zone alarm on the firewall/routor and on my local machine. So yeah I feel pretty safe when it comes to the RIAA

Pacific Bell Sues RIAA Over Subpoenas--and they're suing because the RIAA invaded their customer's privacy. I love the ISPs and their fight against the RIAA. They know they will stand to lose many customers if there is no swapping.

that is so true, like if lets say if my isp (charter) closed ALL file sharing and p2p I would definetly switch to another ISP.
