If I have a camcorder with a firewire port, can I just plug it into the firewire port on my PC and capture video using using the software that comes with ATI R9700 PRO (all in wonder)? ...will the ATI R9600 do the same? What do I need to capture/edit video from a camcorder and burn into DVDs (besides a DVD burner and a Camcorder?)

I just realized that I posted this in a wrong forum. Hey mods! ..can this get moved?

Thanks!

I dont know about the software that comes with the ATI card, but I think that if that card has a firewire port, it should be able to capture the video. I have used Pinnacle Stdio 8, it is excellent and has an option to import your video using firewire. It is extremely easy to use and you can save in tons of different formats, (DVD, MPEG 2 and 1, DV, AVI, and more). The transsision efects are great and the editing is easy and fast.

The video card itself does not have a firewire port but the PC does. Can it still work?

Yes Ph0eniX, Studio 8 will work just fine with your camera connected to your firewire port. Studio 8 is very simple and strong video editing utility. It will sence any cuts in the video and create snapshots of videos for you wich you can drag onto the timeline. Try it out and you will see. smile.gif

Studio 8 only captures off firewire, but you can capture the video using anything else and import it into Studio 8 and work from there.

I ahvent used movie maker 2, but I hear it's very limited on functionality and features. But if you want something free and don't demand nuch, I say give it a try.

Actually Gsurface Studio 7 and 8 support USB camara's also cause our project asked if Firewire or USB which we used Firewire of course cause the usb on the computer would be what 5mbs compared to firewire 400mbs biggrin.gif

Also about Windows Move Maker 2 like gsurface said it has VERY limited use compared to third party video editing apps...

I just did - it sucks. It doesn't even let you export into MPEG or AVI format.

Yup your right Ben, I guess what I ment to say was that it doesnt support tv tuner cards, which is a shame. sad.gif . But its probably still one of the best video editing tools out there, and Ive tried plenty when I had to edit my brothers graduation.

Man, I didn't even go that far into it to find out it dindn't let you do that, another reason not to use it, thanx Ph0eniX.
