I need a new defragger please state why u think the one u like is best.

Ive used PerfectDisk, Diskeeper and Windows Defragmentor, and Ive found the Perfect Disk is the fastes, tleast from the version I tried, 2000. It also works behind Windows keeping a tab on where files are without hoggin up your system. Not that there is a miracle defragmenter and it will be done in about 15 minutes, but you can expect a little less time of completion from perfect disk than the other 2 that I mentioned previously, IMPO.

I have always used Diskeeper, but I find its still quite fast, gives great details...and also allowes be to remote install a copy over my network (repairing people's machines, and just shoot over a copy)

Ben, after defragmenting have you noticed any significant changes in speed and efficiency on your system? I dont really notice much even though they say that it does increase your performance.

i've used Diskkeeper.. its nice.. nice details after defrag, like ben said. and i notice a HUGE performance difference after G...

hummm, really? I mean, there is a small difference, but not as noticable as I thought. Ohh well, maybe it's me.

i use windows defragger cuz it gets me as low of fragmentation as the others mentioned...i've used them all b4 and as far as a speed and perf. difference...if u frag once a week u will not really notice a difference but if u do it once a month or even once every 6mo...u will notice it.

i usually use the format method of defragging...once a month sometimes twice

Yea Ive also noticed better performance than the windows defragmentor.

Yeah I've heard diskeeper is suppose to be like 700x times better whatever (In the ad in PC MAG) but anyways...like after a week of heavy use and like file browsing..when I click on a folder...it sometimes takes like 3 seconds to load it instead of instant....same folder...I notice better performance like that, faster opening up folders, files ect after using diskkeeper...
Guess what thats what teh defragers actually do..organize it so it can access stuff faster..

Good ol' Windows Defragger for me. Doesn't show that much of an improvement, but then again I defrag every night.

Every night?? What do you do, do you leave it over night on defraging, or do you have a 2GB HD?

Diskeeper works for me i have found it to be trouble free and fast

i have 2 40gig hdd and windows defrag takes about 15min ea. to defrag....it only takes me 12 min to ghost in my brand new fresh copy of xp w/ all drivers and software installed...thats why i opt for the format rather than the fragment

Nope. It takes less than 5 minutes to defrag my 60gig hard drive. Not bad eh?

5 mins!! takes me like an hour! well not that long but something close to it...

Man, it takes me a good hour on my 80 GB HD. How many files do you have in there?

I got a 80 gig drive filled with almost 100 divx movies, that takes like 2 hours...
and my OS 60 gig which takes about 35 mins (half ful) and my 10 gig drive which is 70% full and takes 30 mins

i use OO Defrag...cant believe none of u use it it defrags the files that all the other ones dont cause of programs using em ...try it out and u will get a REAL Defrag program...not just a program that defrags the files not being used.

windows defragmenter is based off of an old version of diskeeper...

Is it me, or is this thread confusing? I think this thread is reporting peoples names wrong, and miss-formatting stuff..

Anyway, I use windows defragmenter.. always works great.

I use Diskeeper for 98SE and ME. I use Perfectdisk for XP.

Takes me about 2 - 15 minutes to defrag depending on whether or not it is my first defrag (always defrags faster on subsequent defrags) and which partiton I am defragging ( the OS,Files or Data partition) on my 40 or 120G hdd.

But I usually defrag my pagefile (which is kept on a seperate partition from my OS) first at boot up (one time only).
