Remember the guy who was quoted .002 CENTS per kB but charged .002 DOLLARS per??

His payment check

Okay, first, nothing against HalOfBorg for posting THIS post, I find it quite entertaining. However, I'd like to say something because I find this guys blatant disregard for his own personal security frightening and very stupid.

It scares me how people will put certain things on the Internet. Just from this check I now know where this guy goes to school at (Christopher Newport University) and that he's going for a Bachelor's degree in Applied Sciences. (I won't mention anymore than that.) For god sakes, posting your CHECK online (whether you've blurred it out or not) is... well, DUMB.

Now his personal SIGNATURE is all over the net as well. I'm sure people think "Oh this is just silly, it's just a check..." hahahah... You just keep thinking that. I have a friend that could PROBABLY get this guys account number, routing number, etc. WHY do people post things like this on the Internet!?!?

Okay, maybe I'm just really paranoid. I bet NOBODY out there agrees with me on this anyways.

People are very careless with their personal information online. I'm glad someone agrees.

That doesn't even make sense, the check is written out to pay Verizon, not as a payment from Verizon; which is why it says pay to the order of Verizon.

As for the identity issues...agreed, however you're making the assumption that this is a copy of an actual personal check. It my look that way but who's to say he didn't do a search like this one: Blank Check and download one of the images and Photoshop it?

I meant it like "He sent in his payment."

How else could I have gotten so much correct information on him? I decided to look up the name using a paid service (which I have a subscription too, so it's not like I went to all the trouble just for this) and actually FOUND this guy. Considering that it was the same town and state, and there aren't very many people with the exact same name set (first, middle, and last) I'd say he was definitely stupid enough to post his real check. Also, something tells me if he had gotten a random check from the Internet and shopped it, he likely wouldn't have bothered blurring out the account number, routing number, and other information (unless he just went one step further to make it look like he did, but I highly doubt it). People don't realize what other determined people can find on the Internet with VERY little information. Sometimes I find it entertaining to see what I can surprise my coworkers with at work.

I just LOVE it when I start something. smile.gif

'course, it's NEVER what I meant to start.

While it's not something I would do, personally - it's really not a big deal. Some people are more cautious than others, that's all. I guarantee if you google "cheque" you'll find thousands more. Identity thieves can get millions of people's identities, it doesnt have to be information on a check - and a check with someones name and signature online won't make it any easier, I guarantee that. Furthermore, it's so much trouble to do it, and so easy to get caught (in the case of any kind of wrong doing) that it's not at all worth it. And remember, you get the same information from a published phone number, that you get from something like that - so, I wouldn't blow any veins if I were you.
