Last night my PC started rebooting after about 30 seconds in Hibernate or Standby. All PM options like Wake On Lan are disabled in BIOS, the mouse is NOT set to wake the PC, and it have never done this before.

WinXP Home. Asus P5B Deluxe MB.

    Ideas????

    UPDATE

It re-starts, when put into hibernate or standby, after 45 - 65 seconds. When it restarts, it acts perfectly normal, like we meant for it to restart.

I have tried turning off the DSL modem/router. Turned off the USB cordless mouse. Neither of these are set to wake it. The BIOS has all 'wake' options set to "Disable".

I tried unplugging our Plantronics USB headset.

It does not restart when shutdown.

So.... once again the universe has conspired to keep me from doing something that I want to do, that is simple, and that many other people do.

You hear that??? That is the Universe laughing behind my back.

How about any sort of download programs, AV scanners, antispyware scanners, or other programs that run in the background? Sometimes these apps can wake a system from hibernate/standby.

If your system has 1GB or more of RAM, I'd highly suggest installing the hotfix here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=909095. I know the description doesn't exactly match your issue, but I've had plenty of random hibernation related issues on systems with 1GB+ of RAM get fixed by this patch. You can also look at this KB for more hibernation/standby troubleshooting steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907477.

Let me know how you make out.

    I'll look into that.

Only P2P i have is WinMX and uTorrent. The uT people MIGHT want to make me mad, but I doubt v1.61 is doing it.

And how does anything in Windows make the computer start back up a minute after it has powered down???

It seems like the problem is that you're machine is actually not going into hibernation completely. Do all your PC's LEDs and fans shut off when you go into hibernation?

Yep - just like it's always been. LEDs, fans off. All quiet for about 1 minute, then the invisible man pushes the power button. But NOT when I do "Shutdown"...... which I guess I'm gonna have to do from now on.

Hotfix didn't correct the problem either?
